Permissions & Privacy
SuperMute is designed with privacy as a first principle. This page explains what permissions the app requires, why they’re necessary, and what data SuperMute collects (spoiler: none).
Required Permissions
Notification Access
Why it’s required: Notification Access allows SuperMute to display a persistent toggle in your notification shade. Without this permission, you would need to open the app every time you want to mute or restore volume.
What SuperMute does with this permission:
- Displays a mute/restore toggle in your notification shade
- Receives notification when you tap the toggle
What SuperMute does NOT do:
- Read your notifications
- Access notification content from other apps
- Log, store, or transmit notification data
- Modify or dismiss notifications
Android’s Notification Access permission is broad, but SuperMute uses it only for its toggle. The app has no code to read, parse, or interact with notifications from other apps.
Data Collection
SuperMute collects zero data. The app does not:
- Track your usage
- Log analytics
- Send data to remote servers
- Store personally identifiable information
- Use third-party SDKs or trackers
- Display ads or embedded content
Your volume settings, usage patterns, and device information never leave your phone.
Internet Access
SuperMute does not request internet access. The app operates entirely offline and has no network code.
This is verifiable by checking the app’s permissions in Android settings. You will not see “Network” or “Internet” listed.
Local Storage
SuperMute stores the following data locally on your device:
- Your last known volume levels (for Smart Restore)
- App preferences (e.g., notification toggle state)
This data is stored in Android’s internal storage and is inaccessible to other apps. It is automatically deleted if you uninstall SuperMute.
Open Source & Verification
While SuperMute is not currently open source, its privacy claims can be verified using:
- Android permission inspector: Check installed permissions in Settings → Apps → SuperMute → Permissions
- Network monitoring tools: SuperMute generates zero network traffic
- Google Play’s Data Safety section: Our Play Store listing declares all data handling practices
Updates & Security
SuperMute is updated exclusively through the Google Play Store. Updates are reviewed by Google and signed with M Media’s developer certificate.
Never install SuperMute from third-party sources. Unofficial versions may contain malware or tracking code not present in the official release.
