Is UPC Scanner free?

Yes. UPC Scanner is a one-time purchase with no subscriptions, in-app purchases, or ads.

Does UPC Scanner work offline?

Yes. UPC Scanner operates entirely offline and does not require internet access.

Can I look up product names or prices?

Nope. UPC Scanner is a cataloging tool, not a shopping or lookup app. It does not fetch product information from online databases. This design ensures maximum privacy, speed, and offline reliability.

What happens to my data if I close the app?

Your scan session is temporary. Very, very temporary. If you close UPC Scanner without exporting, your data will be lost. Always export your CSV before closing the app. We will now say this again:

Privacy & Permissions

Why does UPC Scanner need camera access?

Camera access is required to scan barcodes. UPC Scanner processes images locally and discards them immediately after detection. Photos are never saved or transmitted. See Permissions & Privacy for details.

Does UPC Scanner collect data?

No. No, no, no, no, no. UPC Scanner collects zero data. No analytics, no tracking, no telemetry. Your scan lists never leave your device.

Can UPC Scanner access my photos?

No. UPC Scanner only uses the camera for live scanning. It does not access your photo gallery or save images.

Technical Questions

What barcode formats are supported?

UPC Scanner recognizes:

  • UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13, EAN-8
  • Code 39, Code 128
  • QR Code, Data Matrix

If a format is not supported, use manual entry.

What is Inventory Mode?

Inventory Mode allows you to scan the same barcode multiple times and track the count. Each unique barcode appears once in your list with an incremented count. See Usage for details.

Can I edit scanned barcodes?

No. UPC Scanner does not currently support editing. If you make a mistake, clear the session and start over, or manually delete the incorrect entry from your exported CSV.

What format are exported files?

UPC Scanner exports standard CSV files compatible with Excel, Google Sheets, LibreOffice Calc, and custom databases.

Can I import CSV files back into UPC Scanner?

No. UPC Scanner is an export-only tool. Once you export a CSV, manage it in your spreadsheet or database software.

Scanning & Usage

Why won’t my barcode scan?

Common causes:

  • Poor lighting
  • Dirty camera lens
  • Damaged or faded barcode
  • Unsupported barcode format

Can I scan multiple items at once?

No. UPC Scanner scans one barcode at a time. Point your camera at a single barcode and wait for confirmation before moving to the next.

How do I delete a scanned barcode?

UPC Scanner does not currently support per-item deletion. To remove an incorrect scan:

  1. Export your CSV
  2. Open it in a spreadsheet app
  3. Delete the incorrect row
  4. Save the file

Compatibility

What Android versions are supported?

UPC Scanner requires Android 7.0 (Nougat) or newer. Most devices from 2016 onward are supported.

Does UPC Scanner work on tablets?

Yes. UPC Scanner works on any Android device with a rear camera running Android 7.0 or newer.

Can I use UPC Scanner on multiple devices?

Yes. Your Google Play purchase allows installation on all devices linked to your Google account.

Support & Updates

How do I get updates?

UPC Scanner updates automatically through the Google Play Store if auto-update is enabled. You can also manually update via the Play Store.

How do I report a bug?

Email support@mmediasoftwarelab.com with:

  • Your device model
  • Android version
  • UPC Scanner version (found in app settings)
  • Description of the issue

Can I request a feature?

Uninstalling

How do I uninstall UPC Scanner?

  1. Open Settings → Apps → UPC Scanner
  2. Tap Uninstall
  3. Confirm

All app data is automatically deleted. No remnants are left on your device.

Will I lose my purchase if I uninstall?

No. Your Google Play purchase is permanent. You can reinstall UPC Scanner anytime without repurchasing.
