Troubleshooting
This guide covers common issues and their solutions. If you don’t find your issue here, see the FAQ or contact support.
Camera Not Scanning Barcodes
Possible Causes:
- Poor lighting
- Damaged or dirty barcode
- Camera focus issues
- Unsupported barcode format
Solutions:
- Improve lighting: Scan in bright, even light. Avoid shadows and glare.
- Clean your camera lens: Wipe the lens with a soft cloth.
- Hold steady: Keep your device stable and centered on the barcode.
- Try manual entry: If the barcode is damaged, enter it manually using the keyboard icon.
- Check barcode format: See Supported Barcode Formats.
Camera Permission Denied
Cause: Camera access was denied during initial setup.
Solution:
- Open Android Settings → Apps → UPC Scanner
- Tap Permissions
- Tap Camera
- Select Allow
- Return to UPC Scanner and try scanning again
CSV Export Fails
Cause: Storage permission was not granted.
Solution:
- Tap Export again
- When prompted, tap Allow to grant storage access
- Choose a save location and confirm
If the issue persists:
- Open Settings → Apps → UPC Scanner → Permissions
- Ensure Storage is set to Allow
- Try exporting again
Scan Data Lost After Closing App
Cause: You closed UPC Scanner without exporting your scan session.
Explanation: UPC Scanner does not save scan sessions automatically. Your data is temporary and exists only during the current session.
Solution: Always export your CSV before closing the app. To prevent future data loss:
- Export after every scan session
- Set a reminder to export before closing
- Consider exporting incrementally (e.g., every 50 scans)
App Crashes or Force Closes
Solution:
- Clear app cache: Settings → Apps → UPC Scanner → Storage → Clear Cache
- Restart your device
- Update to the latest version from Google Play
- If crashes continue, uninstall and reinstall
If the problem persists, email crash logs to support@mmediasoftwarelab.com.
Inventory Mode Not Counting Correctly
Cause: Inventory Mode may be disabled, or you’re scanning different barcode formats.
Solution:
- Open Settings and confirm Inventory Mode is toggled ON
- Ensure you’re scanning the same exact barcode (same format, same number)
- If barcodes differ slightly, they will be counted as separate items
Barcode Format Not Recognized
UPC Scanner supports:
- UPC-A, UPC-E, EAN-13, EAN-8
- Code 39, Code 128
- QR Code, Data Matrix
If your barcode isn’t recognized:
- Verify it’s one of the supported formats
- Try scanning in better lighting
- Use manual entry if the format is unsupported
Battery Drain
UPC Scanner uses battery while the camera is active. This is normal for camera-based apps.
To reduce battery usage:
- Close UPC Scanner when not in use
- Lower screen brightness
- Export and close the app after each session
